Used in lithography for making very fine tonal values by rubbing on stones and metal plates.

Drawer procedes as follows:

Take a piece of cloth and stretch it over the finger. Rub it over the stick of ink until enough ink has adhered. Then go lightly over those parts of the stone or the plate where a tint is desired, in the same manner as an estompe is used.
