The Jan Forrer intaglio press is back in the spotlight after more than 40 years, with production relaunched by the third generation of Forrer family.
And this under the technical supervision of Gert-Jan Forrer: a ‘master printer’ with over forty years' experience in intaglio and lithographic printing techniques, and co-founder with his father Jan of the company Jan Forrer Etspers.

The Jan Forrer intaglio press was designed and developed by Jan himself on the basis of his years of practical experience.
His idea was to develop a lightweight press with the same capacity as a conventional press, which at the time was often made of cast iron.

Thanks to an author's invention registered with the State of the Netherlands, in which the bottom roller is supported by a ‘dam’ with 7 plain bearings made of pearlitic cast iron, the Jan Forrer press offers a 1:7 gear ratio without the usual means of transmission such as chains and gears and other gearboxes.
This invention eliminates deflection (the phenomenon of the cylinder flexing as pressure rises), resulting in better print quality in terms of sharpness and reliable register. Without any real formal variation, it is therefore different from other conventional presses in terms of operation.

The top roller consists of a seamless boiler tube with a 10mm thick wall. Its shaft is engaged in two needle roller bearings, which facilitate rotation at high pressure. These 2 bearings are held in sliding block half-bearings above which a stack of compression cartons can be installed (to provide a slight pressure relief when the plate passes through). The pressure screw presses against the whole.

The Jan Forrer 600 press is driven by a spoked wheel.
