It is applied on warm plates with a leather dabber or a brayer.
Its suppleness allows etcher to make imprints and to do the "pencil method": it consists of drawing with a hard pencil on a light paper applied on top of the soft ground layer. The paper takes off the ground under the drawn parts creating pencil-like effects after biting.
