Printing ink black
Charbonnel
Formerly "Aqua wash"
Charbonnel Printing ink is an emulsionated oil based etching ink (does not contain water). Hands and materials can be washed with soap and water.
This ink meets all the criteria for "artist" quality and has a high pigment concentration identical to that of standard inks.
Blacks are available in 60ml tubes and 150ml tins (soft black only in 60ml tube).

This ink can be reduced with Charbonnel Aqua wash oil.
Choose a black:
55985: very viscous. Difficult to wipe. Slightly blue tinted and very deep black. Enables to reinforce other blacks (composition: ivory black, carbon black and prussian blue)
Luxe C: low viscosity. Quite supple and soft black. Slightly blue tinted (composition: ivory black, carbon black and prussian blue)
F66: low viscosity, easy to wipe. Medium intensity (composition: ivory black and carbon black)
RSR: viscous. Powerful and supple black (composition: carbon black)
55981: very viscous. Easier to wipe than 55985. Universal supple black (composition: ivory black and carbon black)
Soft: low viscosity, easy to wipe - very supple, used to reduce intensity in case of plate too deeply engraved (composition: ivory black)
Carbon: low viscosity, easy to wipe off. Can be used for test prints (composition: carbon black)
Characterstics:
Water-washable oil-based emulsion (does not contain water).
Hands and materials can be washed with soap and water.
High pigment concentration (identical to standard inks).
Extremely lightfast.
All colours can be intermixed.
Viscious and easy to wipe.
Can be used with paper that is less damp than required for standard etching ink.
Same drying time as standard inks.
Will not soften when dry.
This ink range meets all the criteria for "artist" quality and has a high pigment concentration identical to that of standard inks.
It can be used in all intaglio techniques such as: engraving, dry-point, mezzotint, etching and aquatint, as well as monotype and relief printing (linocut or woodcut).
Art schools, and an increasing number of print workshops are now searching for water washable solution.
Aqua Wash inks are genuine oily inks for use in all techniques whether etching or relief printing. They must not be confused with water and resin based inks such as arabic gum or cellulose-tempera based inks that can be "re-soften" and are limited to monotype or relief printing techniques.
