Copper is the most used metal in intaglio becaue of its resistance, its flexibility, its ability to be finely etched and its good heat conductibility ( quality for inking and wiping and also for applying certain grounds and cooking correctly rosin aquatint).
The unpolished finish retains ink and gives a light colored background to the prints.
